As a parent in their fifties, I find myself reflecting on the unique experience of watching one of my children complete their school journey in person. This is a moment that many parents missed out on due to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In my case, I have three daughters – aged 21, 18, and 14. In 2020, when my eldest daughter was finishing school, we were in Peru amidst the pandemic. Now, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, I am witnessing the end of my daughter Fatima’s school stage at Buen Ayre school.
Over the last three years, Fatima and her friends have participated in various activities associated with this milestone. From farewells to graduation parties, each event has marked a significant step towards the next chapter in her life.
As I watch Fatima grow and prepare to enter university, I am reminded of the passage of time and the memories we have shared together. It feels like just yesterday when she started kindergarten, played with dolls, and celebrated her first communion and confirmation.
Now, as she embarks on her adult life, I offer her some words of advice:
- You are an extraordinary human being above all things.
- Your smile and natural spark are your powerful weapons.
- If you stumble, get up quickly and keep moving forward.
- Cultivate your friendship with Jesus and always be grateful for the gifts you have received.
- You now have the helm of your ship – choose your path wisely.
- Your mother and I will always be here to support you.
- Use your tools to serve others and find success in life.
And as the lyrics of a song go, may God always guide you and keep you safe in the palm of his hand.
So, my dear daughter, embrace the challenges ahead and let your smile shine brighter. May you find strength in the face of adversity and always have loved ones by your side. And remember, God will always be there to guide you on your journey.
Take care of yourself, my girl, and may God always protect you. Go forth with courage, and may the winds lead you to a safe harbor!
