Father Javier Ortega, a priest from the Diocese of Alcalá de Henares in Spain, has shared his thoughts on Halloween costumes that are often associated with demons, witches, and the dead. He strongly advises against wearing such costumes as they may be tempting the devil in some way.
In a recent interview published on the diocese’s website, Father Ortega urged parents to steer clear of allowing their children to partake in these celebrations. If they do choose to participate, he recommends dressing up as saints or in costumes that represent beautiful and positive themes.
He emphasized the importance of not dressing up as demons, witches, or dead people, as doing so could potentially open doors to negative influences. Father Ortega stated, “In some way you are tempting the devil… In other words, it’s not something neutral.”
The priest shed light on the pagan origins of Halloween, mentioning that it holds significance for satanists and is far from the teachings of the Christian faith. He expressed his concern about individuals unknowingly becoming complicit in a celebration that has ties to evil influences.
As Father Ortega concluded, “When you play with fire, you can get burned. It’s not certain that you will always get burned, but the risk is there.”
