Welcome to World Mission Sunday 2024!
As we gear up for the 98th World Mission Sunday on October 20, the Pontifical Mission Societies is thrilled to share a captivating video that sheds light on the inspiring work of missionaries worldwide. Join us as we embark on this incredible journey together, not as mere spectators, but as active participants in the Church’s mission. Together, we can bring hope, faith, and action to every corner of the earth!
Featuring the theme “Go and invite everyone to the banquet” (cf. Mt 22:9), this year’s World Mission Sunday is all about celebrating community. The video, created in collaboration with TPMS branches globally, showcases the faces and voices of missionaries, national directors, and laypeople dedicated to serving those on the margins of society.
Cardinal Soane Patita Paini Mafi, Bishop of Tonga, makes a special appearance in the video, emphasizing the importance of “go,” “invite,” “proclaim the Gospel,” “celebrate,” “share,” “justice,” “joy,” and “fraternity.”
Archbishop Emilio Nappa, president of the Pontifical Mission Societies, highlights the essential role of every Christian in proclaiming the Gospel. He stresses the significance of raising awareness, gathering spiritual fruits, and financial sacrifices to support the needs of local Churches worldwide.
Furthermore, Archbishop Nappa touches upon the crucial aspect of re-evangelization, especially in Churches of ancient Christianity where the number of Christians is dwindling. He emphasizes the importance of immersing oneself in different cultures to discover the values of the Gospel.
Join us on World Mission Sunday 2024 as we continue to serve the universal Church, in the spirit of synodality and tradition, on behalf of the Pope. Let’s make this year’s mission a truly memorable and impactful one!
