Discover Viale Francis Ford Coppola: A Tribute to a Legendary Director
Francis Ford Coppola, the iconic Italian-American filmmaker renowned for The Godfather trilogy, was recently honored at Rome’s historic CinecittĂ film studios. At 85, Coppola received two special tributes: a street named after him and the honorary key to the studios where he shot scenes for The Godfather – Part III over three decades ago.
During the ceremony, Coppola expressed his gratitude, saying, “For me, all of this is a dream come true. I have always been fascinated by CinecittĂ .” He reminisced about his youthful dreams of studying at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, which symbolized a gateway to CinecittĂ , the Italian equivalent of Hollywood.
The evening continued with the Italian premiere of Coppola’s latest film Megalopolis, serving as a prelude to the 19th edition of the Rome Film Festival commencing later in the week. The director shared his plans for the future, stating, “I’m nearing the end of my journey, but I aspire to create two more films – one intimate and light-hearted, primarily filmed in Italy, and one grand in scale.”
On the horizon, Coppola is set to receive the prestigious Lupa Capitolina, Rome’s highest honor, from Mayor Roberto Gualtieri at a ceremony at city hall. It’s a fitting tribute to his remarkable contributions to the world of cinema.
