Today at noon, the Holy Father Francis blessed the crowd of around 20,000 faithful and pilgrims gathered in St. Peter’s Square from the window of the Vatican Apostolic Palace, reciting the Angelus.
Reflecting on the Gospel passage from Mark about a wealthy man seeking eternal life, Francis emphasized the importance of risking love for God, giving to the poor, and following Him for true happiness.
Words of Wisdom from the Pope:
Greetings, dear brothers and sisters on this blessed Sunday!
In today’s Gospel reading, we learn about a rich man who runs to Jesus to inquire about eternal life. Although originally eager, the man becomes sorrowful when asked to give up his possessions to follow Jesus. The initial excitement turns into a hasty departure, showcasing his reluctance to risk everything for love.
Similarly, we all have an inherent desire for happiness and fulfillment. While we often seek material wealth for satisfaction, Jesus reminds us that true joy comes from God’s love and selfless giving to others. Let us embrace the challenge of risking love by sharing our talents, time, and possessions with those in need.
Let us not be like the rich man who walked away with a heavy heart. Instead, let us examine our priorities and seek true wealth in being loved by God and loving others selflessly.
May the Virgin Mary guide us in discovering the abundant life offered by Jesus.
