World Leaders Condemn Attacks on UN Peacekeepers in Southern Lebanon
Amidst rising tensions in the Middle East, world leaders have come together to denounce the recent attacks on United Nations peacekeepers by Israeli forces in southern Lebanon. This marks the second incident within a two-day period, sparking international concern.
The head of UN peacekeeping operations has stated that there is evidence to suggest that Israel deliberately targeted UN positions in southern Lebanon, resulting in injuries to UN personnel. In response, leaders from France, Italy, and Spain issued a joint declaration condemning the attacks as “unjustifiable.” Additionally, US President Joe Biden has urged Israel to avoid harming UN peacekeepers during their operations against Hezbollah.
On a separate front, Lebanon’s prime minister has reported a tragic toll of 22 civilians killed in Israeli airstrikes in central Beirut, with no prior warning. This unprovoked violence has led to widespread outrage and calls for accountability.
