In response to the growing humanitarian crisis in Lebanon, the Pontifical Foundation Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) is ramping up its efforts to assist the Lebanese Church. ACN is providing vital aid such as food, medicine, education, and other essential support to displaced families.
ACN’s Emergency Campaign: Raising 1 Million Dollars
As a Catholic charity dedicated to the pastoral and spiritual care of persecuted Christians worldwide, ACN has launched an emergency campaign to raise at least 1 million dollars. This funding will help the Church in Lebanon address the new challenges arising from the escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
700,000 Internally Displaced People
According to UN reports, the ongoing conflict has resulted in nearly 700,000 internally displaced people across Lebanon, with areas like Beirut, Mount Lebanon, and Northern Lebanon seeing a significant influx of displaced individuals. The Church has swiftly responded by opening its doors to all displaced families, regardless of their religious or ethnic background.
ACN, which has supported approximately 200 projects in Lebanon, has already reached out to seven dioceses and five religious congregations actively involved in relief efforts. The urgent needs of these communities include food, sanitation products, bedding, medication, and other essentials.
Christians Affected by the Conflict
While the crisis impacts the entire country, border regions between Israel and Lebanon, where Christians form a substantial part of the population, are among the hardest hit areas. Recent reports from ACN reveal the tragic consequences of the conflict, such as a missile attack on a church sheltering displaced individuals, resulting in casualties and significant damage.
Thousands of Christians have been forced to flee their homes, leading to family separations and severe disruptions to livelihoods, particularly for farmers who have lost their source of income due to the destruction of their lands and crops.
ACN remains committed to supporting the Lebanese Church during this critical time. Executive President Regina Lynch reassures that the charity will stand by the Church in Lebanon, emphasizing the importance of ongoing support from donors to address the urgent needs of the affected communities.
