The Sisters Hospitallers Campaign: Supporting Mental Health
The Congregation of the Sisters Hospitallers of the Sacred Heart is launching a new campaign in honor of World Mental Health Day on October 10th. This campaign aims to shed light on the fact that one in four people experience mental health issues at some point in their lives.
Under the theme “Their struggle is also ours”, the Sisters Hospitallers’ campaign shares stories of overcoming mental health challenges with love and professional care. With 143 years of experience in hospital services, the Sisters Hospitallers are experts in providing support and hospitality to those in need.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health is essential for overall well-being and health, impacting our ability to make decisions and interact with others. WHO emphasizes the need for protecting human rights, empowering individuals with mental health conditions, and adopting a collaborative approach involving various stakeholders.
“As Hospitaller Sisters, we are committed to being agents of change, offering support and care to those struggling with mental health challenges. Mental health is a right that we must defend together,” said Sister Idilia Carneiro, Superior General of the congregation.
A Community Effort
The campaign features eight inspiring stories shared on the social networks of Sisters Hospitallers International. These stories demonstrate that a fulfilling life is possible with professional assistance and the resilience to overcome obstacles.
The Sisters Hospitallers operate in over 85 healthcare centers across 25 countries, with a team of around 900 Sisters, 12,000 collaborators, and volunteers. They specialize in providing comprehensive assistance, care, and rehabilitation to individuals with mental illness, intellectual disabilities, and other health conditions.
