Israeli Military Expands Ground Offensive Against Hezbollah in Lebanon
Amid escalating tensions, the Israeli military has announced an expansion of its ground offensive against Hezbollah in southwest Lebanon. This move, deemed ‘limited and targeted’, involves the deployment of the 4th Division, bringing the total number of troops to approximately 15,000.
The ground offensive, which commenced on 30th September, has seen Israeli airstrikes on the capital Beirut. In a recent operation, the Israeli Defence Forces claimed to have eliminated a Hezbollah commander.
The repercussions of the conflict have been felt by the Lebanese population, with over 400,000 people fleeing to Syria to escape the Israeli strikes. Additionally, Hezbollah retaliated by launching rockets at the Israeli city of Haifa. While more than 100 rockets were fired, many were successfully intercepted.
On a somber note, Monday marked the remembrance of the victims of the heinous Hamas attacks of 7th October 2023. President Biden condemned the “unspeakable brutality” of these attacks, emphasizing the need for peace and justice.
