October 27: A Day of Celebration
On October 27, the Vatican will come alive with festivities as Pope Francis leads a Mass to unveil the beautifully restored baldacchino. Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, Archpriest of the Basilica, shared the exciting news and highlighted the significance of this day.
Not only will the Synod come to an end, but October 27 is also a day of peace, remembering the interreligious meeting initiated by St. John Paul II in Assisi in 1986.
Restoring History: The Baldacchino
The majestic baldacchino, created by Gian Lorenzo Bernini for Pope Urban VIII, has stood tall above the first Pope’s tomb since its completion between 1624 and 1635. With its last refurbishment in 1758, the recent restoration was a much-needed face-lift to prepare for the upcoming Jubilee in 2025.
