The Grand Return of Tevere Day: Celebrating Rome’s Iconic Tiber River
The vibrant city of Rome is gearing up for the sixth edition of Tevere Day, a spectacular event dedicated to the revival and preservation of the historic Tiber River. Mark your calendars for October 7 to 13, 2024, as Rome comes alive to celebrate this cherished waterway.
This year’s Tevere Day brings with it a thrilling milestone – the section of the Tiber River that flows through the heart of Rome has officially been recognized as part of UNESCO’s protected heritage. To commemorate this achievement, a special Tevere patrimonio del mondo conference will be held on October 8 at the iconic Ara Pacis.

This prestigious designation emphasizes the Tiber’s significance not only as a natural resource but as a cultural treasure. It also underscores the continuous efforts to restore and rehabilitate the river’s banks, which have played a crucial role in Rome’s history and identity. With UNESCO’s safeguard, the Tiber now joins an illustrious list of globally significant sites.
Prepare for over 140 events along 84 kilometers of the Tiber’s banks, with key locations including Lungotevere degli Anguillara, Ponte della Musica, and Scalo de Pinedo. The festivities will extend to surrounding areas such as Nazzano Tevere Farfa Park, Ostia Antica, and Fiumicino’s Imperial Ports. Environmental parks will also host a variety of activities from October 11-13, catering to families and outdoor enthusiasts.

Highlights of the event include sustainability workshops for schools, exclusive viewings of the Orfeo Tamburi mural, and a rare peek at the Temple of Jupiter on Tiber Island. Attendees can also look forward to a Musical Festival featuring local orchestras and bands from Rome’s diverse neighborhoods.
Aside from cultural activities, Tevere Day 2024 will offer sports, bike rides, boat tours, and more, providing a unique opportunity to explore and appreciate the Tiber and its surroundings. This event promises a mesmerizing blend of history, culture, and community, all centered around Rome’s iconic river.
