Welcome to the Renovation of Rome’s Beloved Trevi Fountain!
Exciting news for all Rome enthusiasts! The iconic Trevi Fountain is currently undergoing maintenance work to enhance its beauty and preserve its historical importance. The city’s mayor, Roberto Gualtieri, announced that access to the fountain will be limited during the Vatican’s Jubilee Year 2025, with the possibility of an entry fee in the future.
The renovation project includes the installation of transparent panels around the fountain, providing visitors with a unique view of the Baroque monument. A “horseshoe-shaped walkway” will also be added over the water, allowing tourists to continue the tradition of throwing coins into the fountain.
While enjoying the fountain, visitors will no longer be allowed to eat food at the site. This maintenance work follows a decade after a major restoration sponsored by fashion house Fendi, and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
This project aims to manage the flow of tourists, with plans to limit the number of visitors around the new year. “The construction site, and in particular the walkway, will be an opportunity to test the methods of limited access and the maximum number of people who can remain in the lower basin,” explained Gualtieri.
There will be no fixed barriers or turnstiles at the site. Instead, access will be controlled by on-site staff, allowing a gradual entry process for visitors. The city will evaluate the success of this trial phase to determine whether to introduce a ticketing system in the future.
Amidst all these changes, the city aims to offer a better experience for tourists and locals alike when visiting the Trevi Fountain. Rome’s tourism councillor, Alessandro Onorato, emphasized the need for a more organized and enjoyable visit to the monument.
So, if you’re planning a trip to Rome in the near future, make sure to witness the transformation of the Trevi Fountain and be a part of its rich history! Let’s cherish this iconic landmark and preserve it for future generations to enjoy.
