Our devotion to the Virgin Mary finds expression through various Marian devotions such as the scapular of Carmen, the Angelus, visits to sanctuaries, and more. October 7 marks the feast of the Virgin of the Rosary, a celebration so significant that it extends throughout the entire month. October becomes the month of Rosary prayer, mirroring May as the month dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
The importance of the Rosary is evident in the centuries-old practice of its recitation by Popes and bishops. Moreover, the Virgin Mary herself has emphasized the significance of this prayer, notably during the apparitions at Lourdes and Fatima.
At Fatima, the Virgin appeared holding a magnificent Rosary after the shepherd children had finished praying with devotion. She urged her children to continue this prayer, emphasizing its importance. This devotion was further encouraged by Our Lady through her messages and requests for grace.
In a painting by Albrecht Dürer, Jesus and Mary are depicted distributing garlands of roses to various individuals, symbolizing the Rosary’s offering of roses to our Mother. As Pope St. John XXIII noted, the worst Rosary is the one that goes unrecited.
St. Josemaría Escrivá beautifully explains our love for the Virgin Mary through the Rosary, highlighting that true love often repeats itself. Our devotion in praying the Rosary is a heartfelt expression of love towards Our Mother, as emphasized in his book on the Holy Rosary.
