Pope Francis Welcomes President Sadyr Zhaparov of Kyrgyzstan for Private Audience in the Vatican
Recently, Pope Francis had the honor of holding a private audience with Sadyr Zhaparov, the President of Kyrgyzstan, at the Vatican. The meeting took place in the cozy study of the Paul VI Hall, where President Zhaparov also had the opportunity to engage with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Secretary of State, and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.
The discussions, as reported by the Holy See Press Office, highlighted the strong relations between the Holy See and Kyrgyzstan. Both parties also reaffirmed their commitment to collaborate in various fields such as healthcare, education, culture, and supporting the local Church in Kyrgyzstan.
Moreover, the conversation delved into pressing international issues, particularly focusing on ongoing conflicts and humanitarian crises. The importance of fostering peace through timely interventions was emphasized, underlining the shared responsibility of world leaders in promoting global stability and harmony.
Gift Exchange and Symbolism
During the audience, Pope Francis presented President Zhaparov with a unique terracotta sculpture named “Love and Tenderness,” a photo book showcasing the Apostolic Palace, and a copy of this year’s Message for Peace.
The sculpture, “Love and Tenderness,” embodies the message of love and care for creation, inspired by Pope Francis’s own words during his Papal Inauguration. It symbolizes the need to cherish and protect all of humanity and the environment, offering a glimpse of hope in a troubled world.
Additionally, President Zhaparov reciprocated the gesture by presenting Pope Francis with decorated jars of eco-friendly honey from Kyrgyzstan, a woolen depiction of St. Peter’s Basilica, and a handcrafted tea set made with silver sourced from local mines.
The exchange of gifts symbolizes the shared commitment of both leaders to foster peace, preserve the environment, and promote harmony amongst diverse cultures and populations. It serves as a reminder of the importance of international cooperation and solidarity in addressing global challenges and building a better future for all.
