Israeli forces relentlessly bombard Beirut following the deadliest West Bank strike in decades, resulting in a high number of casualties among children. UNICEF is sounding the alarm about the children killed and injured in Lebanon during Israel’s efforts to dismantle Hezbollah. The organization is urging for a ceasefire and support to deliver humanitarian aid.

Lebanon’s overcrowded shelters are filled to capacity, with many individuals forced to sleep outdoors to escape Israeli attacks.
According to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), 127 children have lost their lives in Israel’s campaign against Hezbollah, with over 100 of them dying in the past 11 days. The number continues to rise, with two more children tragically killed in a recent strike on a cafe in Tulkarm.
With more than 690 children injured in Lebanon over the last six weeks, UNICEF emphasizes the urgent need for a ceasefire and calls on all parties to protect children and civilian infrastructure. The organization stresses the importance of ensuring that humanitarian aid can reach those in need in line with international humanitarian law.
As the conflict escalates, over 400,000 children have been displaced, and at least 10 hospitals, including a neonatal intensive care unit, have been damaged. The toll on children is immense.
A Tremendous Toll on Children
UNICEF Regional Director Adele Khodr expresses great concern over the impact of the conflict on children’s physical and mental well-being. Children are facing injuries, anxiety, and trauma, with many experiencing flashbacks and nightmares related to the violence. The effects on their mental health are a critical concern.
Displaced children are particularly vulnerable, dealing with fear, destruction, and uncertainty in an unfamiliar environment. UNICEF emphasizes the importance of addressing the long-term impact on their mental health.
Collapsing Healthcare System
Lebanon’s healthcare system is strained due to the rising number of casualties, with 10 hospitals damaged in attacks. UNICEF has delivered emergency medical supplies to support affected facilities, ensuring lifesaving care for families, especially pregnant women and children.
With the urgent need for humanitarian support in Lebanon, UNICEF appeals to the international community to mobilize aid and maintain open supply routes for the delivery of lifesaving assistance to children in need.
