Welcome to the Defiant Pro-Palestinian Rally in Rome!
Despite facing a ban from Italian authorities, the pro-Palestinian rally in Rome is pushing through as planned on Saturday, 5 October. The rally, organized by the Arab-Palestinian Democratic Union (UDAP), has been met with resistance from security chiefs citing public safety concerns.
However, Roberto Massucci, Rome’s new chief police commissioner, emphasized the importance of respecting the ban while engaging in dialogue with the rally’s organizers to find a solution. The UDAP recently appealed against the ban to the Lazio regional administrative tribunal, but the decision was upheld.
The unauthorized demonstration is expected to draw 30,000 protestors from across Italy at Piazzale Ostiense, where security measures will be at its highest. Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi supported the ban, ensuring that police will manage the situation with balance. Any violation of the ban will be considered illegal.
In response to the ban, a new rally has been scheduled by a group of Palestinians on 12 October at Piramide, led by Yousef Salman, president of the Palestinian community of Rome and Lazio. The rally aims to demand a ceasefire, an end to the genocide, and the Israeli bombing of Lebanon for a free Palestine.
