Celebrating the Special Bond with Grandparents on Festa dei Nonni in Italy
In Italy, Festa dei Nonni has been a cherished tradition since 2006, honoring the invaluable role of grandparents in families and society at large. This year, on 2nd October, various initiatives are taking place across the country to commemorate this special day.
“Grandparents serve as a cornerstone in our lives, preserving traditions, sharing wisdom, and imparting unconditional love,” expressed Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on social media, emphasizing the significance of their presence. “They instill important values and create lasting memories that shape us forever.”
This year marks the 18th edition of the celebration, initially introduced in Italy in 2005, coinciding with the Catholic church’s feast day for guardian angels.
Interestingly, Grandparents’ Day was first established in the US in 1978, following a proposal by Marian McQuade, a grandmother from West Virginia with 40 grandchildren.
