Step into the rich history and spirituality of Rome by visiting one of the classic 7 Pilgrim Churches – the Basilica of St. Sebastian Outside The Walls and the Catacombs.

Why Is The Basilica Of St. Sebastian Outside The Walls Significant?
While the Basilica itself may seem unremarkable to some, it holds great significance due to its attached catacombs. Known for being the largest Christian cemetery in Rome, the Basilica was once home to the remains of San Sebastian before they were moved to St. Peter’s Basilica for protection outside the Aurelian Walls.
Aside from the impressive Baroque-style ceiling, the Basilica also houses notable relics and artwork:
- The footprints believed to be left by Jesus during the Domine quo vadis event
- One of the arrows that struck San Sebastiano
- The Albani Chapel (1706-1712)
- The lying statue of San Sebastiano by Gian Lorenzo Bernini
