Pope Francis Appeals for Peace in the Middle East
During his apostolic visit to Belgium, Pope Francis expressed great concern for the escalating conflict in the Middle East and made a heartfelt appeal for an immediate ceasefire. Speaking after Holy Mass in Brussels’ King Baudouin Stadium, the Pope called on all parties involved in the ongoing war in the Middle East to halt the fighting in Lebanon, Gaza, Palestine, and Israel.
Addressing the over 30,000 people in attendance, Pope Francis emphasized the importance of releasing hostages and allowing humanitarian aid to reach those in need. He lamented the devastation caused by the conflict, with many innocent lives being lost each day in the region.
As Israel’s military continued its strikes in Lebanon, the Pope’s plea for peace took on added urgency. He called for prayers for the victims and their families, urging men and women of goodwill not to forget the suffering in Ukraine. “Let us pray for peace,” he emphasized.
World Day of Migrants and Refugees
On the occasion of the 110th World Day of Migrants and Refugees, Pope Francis urged Europe and the international community to view migration as an opportunity for growth in fraternity. He encouraged everyone to see the face of Jesus in every migrant and to welcome them with love and compassion.
Beatification of King Baudouin
In a significant announcement, Pope Francis revealed his intention to begin the process of beatification for King Baudouin upon his return to Rome. He praised the late king as a man of faith whose example should inspire current leaders to work for the common good.
As he concluded his visit to Belgium, the Pope thanked his hosts for their hospitality and the organizers for their hard work. He entrusted the cause of peace to the intercession of the Virgin Mary, praying for the cessation of conflicts in Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, Sudan, Myanmar, and other war-torn regions.
