The Mass took place at Brussel’s King Baudouin Stadium, marking the final public event of Pope Francis’ Apostolic Journey to Luxembourg and Belgium.
During the Mass, the Pope beatified Anne of Jesus, a 17th-century Spanish nun known for her dedication to the Christian faith through poverty, prayer, and charity.
In his homily, Pope Francis praised Blessed Anne of Jesus for her example of holiness, especially during times of scandal within the Church.
He highlighted the need for “feminine styles of holiness,” gentle yet strong, and recognized other Belgian saints throughout history.
Openness to the Spirit’s Invitation
The Holy Father warned against causing harm to the vulnerable through scandal, stressing the importance of the Holy Spirit’s free action.
He reminded Christians of their mission in the Church, based on the grace of God, and encouraged a welcoming attitude towards all believers.
Listening to the Oppressed
Pope Francis emphasized the importance of listening to the cries of the oppressed, considering them as prophetic voices that must not be silenced.
He addressed the issue of abuse within the Church, urging transparency and accountability while condemning all forms of abuse.
Allowing Mercy to Guide Us
The Pope concluded by highlighting the Gospel of mercy as the guiding principle for all actions, reminding Christians to avoid causing scandal and to let love lead their choices.
