Italy Commemorates Silvio Berlusconi with New Stamp
Italy pays tribute to the late four-time former prime minister and media tycoon, Silvio Berlusconi, with a special postage stamp released on his birthday.
The Italian postal service unveiled the stamp on Sunday, 29th September, featuring a smiling Berlusconi against a backdrop of the Italian and European Union flags, along with the years “1936-2023” and “Italia.”
With only 350,000 copies issued of the €1.25 stamp, it serves as a lasting homage to a controversial figure who left a significant mark on Italian politics for decades.
Forza Italia, a coalition partner in the Italian government founded by Berlusconi, embraced the initiative as a well-deserved recognition of his contributions as an entrepreneur, sportsman, political leader, and statesman.
Berlusconi joins a prestigious group of figures being commemorated on Italian stamps this year, including radio pioneer Guglielmo Marconi, Saint Thomas Aquinas, and opera composer Giacomo Puccini.
The release of the Berlusconi stamp coincides with Milan’s decision to contest the renaming of Malpensa airport in honor of the late premier, showcasing the ongoing public reverence and debate surrounding his legacy.
