The Catholic University of Malawi Encourages Graduates to Serve Humanity
At the recent 23rd Congregation of the University, Archbishop Thomas Luke Msusa, also the Pro-Chancellor of the Catholic University of Malawi, delivered a powerful message to the 2024 graduates. He challenged them to prioritize service to humanity and embrace the philosophy of Ubuntu.
Ubuntu, the African concept of interconnectedness and community, calls for serving others rather than seeking to be served. Archbishop Msusa urged the graduating students to embody this philosophy in their lives as they enter society.
Guest of honour at the ceremony, Lusubilo Chakaniza, CEO of Ethanol Company Limited, emphasized the importance of humility in learning practical skills from the industry. He encouraged the graduates to approach their new experiences with an open heart and mind.
Vice Chancellor Associate Professor Ngeyi Ruth Kanyongolo reminded the graduates to acknowledge the support they received on their academic journey and to use the knowledge and skills acquired at the university for the betterment of their communities and country.
The ceremony saw 1475 students receive certificates, diplomas, and degrees in various disciplines. Among the highlights was the inauguration of Associate Professor Kanyongolo as the University’s third Vice-Chancellor.
As these graduates embark on their new chapter, they carry with them the wisdom of Archbishop Msusa, the humility of Chakaniza, and the vision of Professor Kanyongolo. They are well-equipped to make a positive impact on the world and contribute solutions to the challenges that lie ahead.
Let us all be inspired by their dedication and commitment to service, embodying the spirit of Ubuntu in all that we do.
