Welcome Pope Francis!
Excitement is in the air as Pope Francis is set to visit Belgium in less than 24 hours. This short but meaningful visit will give the Pope the opportunity to engage in dialogue, listen attentively, and respond with compassion.
Speaking on behalf of the Belgian Bishops’ conference, Fr Tommy Scholtes, SJ, expressed his hopes for the visit. He emphasized the importance of this encounter as a moment of confirmation, encouragement, and joy. The Pope’s visit will involve interactions with various individuals, including church leaders, the King, and members of the local community, highlighting his pastoral nature.
Belgium, known for its secular environment, presents a unique context for a papal visit. Fr Scholtes acknowledged the challenges of a secularized society but also emphasized the need for the Church to embody the Gospel in both word and deed. The Pope’s visit serves as a reminder of the Church’s significance in a changing world.
During his visit, Pope Francis will also meet with the Jesuit community at Collège Saint-Michel. This intimate gathering will provide an opportunity for heartfelt conversations, advice-sharing, and discussions on vocations and prayer life. The meeting is expected to be emotional and impactful, reflecting the Pope’s personal touch.
As Belgium eagerly awaits the arrival of Pope Francis, the visit promises to be a moment of spiritual renewal, reflection, and unity for the local Church and community.
