Welcome to the National Ecumenical Bishops’ Fellowship Meeting!
Imagine a gathering of 40 prominent Christian leaders from various denominations, coming together for an evening of dialogue, prayer, and fellowship. This was the scene at the National Ecumenical Bishops’ Fellowship Meeting, hosted by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI), at St. John’s National Academy of Health Sciences in Bengaluru.
This event, focused on fostering fellowship and fraternity among the Christian community, aimed to strengthen the ecumenical movement and address urgent national issues. Led by Archbishop Andrews Thazhath, President of CBCI, and Bishop Joshua Mar Ignathios, Chairman of CBCI Office for Dialogue and Ecumenism, the gathering resulted in key resolutions to promote unity among Churches.
Participants engaged in meaningful discussions on pressing national concerns, emphasizing the significant role of Christianity in nation-building and dispelling misinterpretations about the faith. Concerns over increasing atrocities on Christians and other minorities were addressed, with a strong demand for the protection of minority rights and security for all minority communities.
As the meeting concluded, plans were made for common ecumenical celebrations for the Jubilee Year 2025 and the marking of the 1,700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea and the Nicene Creed. The Christian community and Churches were called upon to make a greater contribution to the nation for the common good.
The National Ecumenical Bishops’ Fellowship Meeting ended with a prayer service for Christian unity and a fellowship dinner, leaving participants “filled with the delight of coming together as brothers and sisters in the Lord Jesus Christ.”
