Welcome to the Launch of Pope Francis’ Global Alliance for Children
The Vatican has just announced an exciting new initiative – the launch of Pope Francis’ Global Alliance for Children. This initiative aims to provide one million treatments to children in need over the next three years. The program will connect the top hospitals worldwide, with a special focus on the Vatican’s own Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital in Rome.
The Pope’s Global Alliance for Children’s Health is a new international network that focuses on children’s healthcare and humanitarian aid. It is spearheaded by the U.S.-based nonprofit organization, Patrons of the World’s Children Hospital, following a proposal from Mariella Enoc, who received the Pope’s mandate to lead the effort on May 11.
Children: The Future of Our World
During an audience with Pope Francis, the promoters and partners of the initiative were welcomed with the words, “Children are the seeds of our future. With children, we can build a new world.”
The alliance has two main goals – to create a global network for children’s healthcare and to establish a dedicated network for providing medical care to children worldwide. As Pope Francis emphasized, “There are incurable diseases, but there are no incurable children.”
How the Initiative Works
The initiative operates using a unique “Hub and Spoke” system, where medical expertise and care are provided by leading hospitals (Hubs) to smaller healthcare facilities in underserved regions (Spokes). This connection is facilitated by a multilingual digital platform created by Almaviva and Salesforce, integrated with telehealth services by Teladoc Health.
The First Hub: Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital
The first Hub of the project will be the renowned Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital in the Vatican, also known as “the Pope’s hospital.” This hospital will offer its expertise to care for children and provide support to healthcare workers in underserved regions.
The Strength of Fragility
During the audience, Father Fortunato and Aldo Cagnoli expressed their gratitude to Pope Francis, highlighting the importance of placing the fragility of children at the center and transforming it into the strength of a better world.
Helping Children in Need
As Fabrizio Arengi Bentivoglio, President of Patrons of the World’s Children Hospital, emphasized, there are countless children around the world in desperate need of medical care. The initiative aims to reach these children in less visible areas who lack the necessary support mechanisms.
Get Involved
The Patrons of the World’s Children Hospital is leading the initiative and working on raising awareness, fundraising, and coordinating the global children’s health network. Other organizations involved include Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital, Almaviva, Teladoc Health, Medici con l’Africa Cuamm, PIME, and the Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington.
Join us in this important journey to provide medical care and support to one million children in need over the next three years. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these young ones and build a better world for future generations.
