Pope Francis Praises Elderly and Sick Residents at St. Theresa’s Home in Singapore
“Your prayers are very important to God…”
On a recent visit to St. Theresa’s Home in Singapore, Pope Francis spoke words of comfort and encouragement to the elderly and sick residents. He emphasized the value of their prayers, assuring them that God listens and is pleased with their heartfelt conversations.
Founded 90 years ago by the Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Theresa’s Home now provides care for 200 elderly residents under the management of Catholic Welfare Services (CWS), a non-profit social service agency.
During his visit, the Holy Father blessed around 60 wheelchair-bound seniors from the three nursing homes run by CWS: St. Theresa’s, St. Joseph’s Home, and Villa Francis Home, in a touching ceremony held in the chapel.
This visit marks a poignant moment in Pope Francis’s ongoing journey in Singapore, where he has engaged in various dialogues and activities to promote peace and unity. After speaking to the residents, the Holy Father is set to participate in an interreligious dialogue with young people, before concluding his Apostolic Visit to Asia and Oceania.
As the residents prepare to move to a new Integrated Care facility called St. Theresa’s Village, the existing structure of St. Theresa’s Home will be redeveloped into the ‘Catholic Hub’ for the Archdiocese of Singapore, providing a hub for major Archdiocesan organizations and amenities for the elderly clergy.
Witnessing this kindness and compassion from Pope Francis, the residents of St. Theresa’s Home were filled with gratitude and shared their excitement for the new beginnings ahead.
