Pope Francis Extends Condolences to Typhoon Yagi Victims in Vietnam
On his penultimate day in Singapore, Pope Francis sent his heartfelt condolences to the victims of Typhoon Yagi, which struck Vietnam and resulted in the tragic loss of over 200 lives.
In a telegram signed by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, the Pope expressed deep sadness at the destruction caused by the typhoon, which led to landslides and flash flooding in the region.
Pope Francis offered his spiritual solidarity to the injured and all those affected by the disaster, while commending the souls of the deceased to the mercy of Almighty God. He also invoked blessings upon the civil authorities and emergency personnel who are tirelessly working to provide assistance.
Typhoon Yagi made landfall on Vietnam’s northeast coast on Saturday, triggering heavy flooding that has left a devastating impact on the region.
According to government reports, the death toll has tragically reached 226, with more than 100 individuals still missing and 800 others injured in the aftermath of the disaster.
