Exciting Updates at Ottaviano Metro Station in Rome
Celebrations are in order as Rome reopens the Ottaviano subway station on the Metro A line after a 50-day closure for maintenance and restyling works in preparation for the Vatican’s Jubilee Year 2025.
Although the station has reopened, the renovation work at Ottaviano will continue until the end of November. The municipal public transport company, ATAC, urges commuters to remain patient during this phase of construction.
Some of the improvements made over the summer include replacing floor surfaces, cleaning ceilings and walls, restoring mosaics, and installing new stairlifts.
While Ottaviano is back in service, two other Metro A stations – Spagna and Furio Camillo – are currently closed for renovations and are expected to reopen on 3 October and 7 November, respectively. Ongoing works can also be observed at Cipro, the metro stop for the Vatican Museums, which remains accessible to commuters.
The timing of Ottaviano’s reopening, just a day after a public transport strike in Rome, comes amidst discussions about potential fare increases across the city’s bus, tram, and subway services.
Commute-wise, the Metro A line continues to close early for maintenance purposes, operating until 9:00 pm from Sunday to Thursday, with additional bus services provided after hours. However, on Fridays and Saturdays, the Metro A line extends its operating hours until 1:30 am for late-night travelers.
Furthermore, starting September 16th until November 3rd, the entire tram network in the capital will be replaced by buses to allow for significant redevelopment at the Porta Maggiore tram depot ahead of the anticipated Jubilee Year.
