“Our students, regardless of their religious affiliation, are eagerly awaiting the Pope’s arrival. I believe this visit can be transformative for them, their families, and our nation,” Maddy expressed in an interview with Vatican News.
The Caritas Business College, founded by the Caritas Sisters of Jesus, aims to provide a comprehensive education to the youth of Papua New Guinea, equipping them with the skills to thrive in a technologically advancing world.
During his 45th Apostolic Journey abroad to Asia and Oceania, Pope Francis visited the college and interacted with children from street ministry.
Education, Faith, and Empowerment
Maddy highlighted the school’s commitment to offering a dual curriculum that blends academic excellence with technical expertise. Embracing the teachings of Don Bosco, the college fosters holistic development in students, rooted in reason, religion, and compassion.
Empowering women is a core aspect of their mission, striving to eliminate gender discrimination and promote equality. The school welcomes both men and women, providing equal opportunities for all.
All Equal, All Welcomed
The institution initially focused on young women but has expanded its diploma programs to include young men as well. Regardless of their faith background, all students are encouraged to participate in events and celebrations, fostering a sense of unity and equality.
A Vision for the Future
Maddy’s hopes for the students extend beyond the borders of Papua New Guinea. She envisions them dreaming big, pursuing opportunities abroad, and making a global impact. Many students have already embarked on this journey, driven by a commitment to excellence and the values instilled by the college.
Pope Francis’s Influence
The philosophy of Pope Francis resonates deeply with the mission of the Caritas Business College, focusing on education and nurturing the youth. Maddy is eager to showcase the alignment of their work with the Pope’s vision and emphasizes the inclusive and welcoming nature of their approach.
“At our college, there is no discrimination; it is truly a place for everyone,” Maddy affirmed, underlining the commitment to providing better opportunities for a brighter future, echoing Don Bosco’s words: “Meliora eligo,” meaning ‘We always choose the better things.’
