Political Prisoners Released from Nicaragua Arrive in Guatemala
After facing pressure from the United States, the Nicaraguan Government has made the decision to release a group of political prisoners on humanitarian grounds. This move comes after intense mediation efforts between the U.S. administration and President Daniel Ortega’s government. The White House has confirmed the release of 135 political prisoners, including members of the Mountain Gateway organization, lay Catholics, and students.
A New Chance for Freedom
The release of the political prisoners has been met with relief and gratitude by their families and supporters. The group has been transferred to Guatemala, where the government has generously agreed to provide them with sanctuary. The U.S. administration has also pledged to support these individuals in seeking legal avenues to rebuild their lives in the United States or other countries.
Upon their arrival in Guatemala City, the 135 people were greeted with open arms by local authorities and organizations that provide assistance to migrants. This marks a new chapter for these individuals, offering them hope and a fresh start after enduring hardship and injustice.
