“Listening to the Word and living the Word are essential attitudes that help us become true disciples of Jesus,” declared Pope Francis during the Mass, the concluding public event of his visit to Indonesia.
Expounding on the Gospel message for the feast of St. Teresa of Calcutta, the Pope highlighted the human heart’s constant quest for happiness through truth. He stressed that this truth can only be found in the Word of God, which serves as the ultimate compass guiding individuals back to the real essence of life amidst today’s chaos and pain.
Open Yourself to the Challenge of the Word
Pope Francis urged believers to first listen to the Word of God, much like Peter did when Jesus preached from his boat. He articulated that by welcoming Jesus into their lives, making space for Him, attentively hearing His Word, and allowing themselves to be transformed by it, believers commence their journey of faith.
The Pope further emphasized the need not just to hear Jesus’ Word but also to actively live it. Like Peter, who heeded the call to fish miraculously, believers are called to cast the nets of the Gospel boldly into the sea of the world, trusting in Jesus despite possible failures and obstacles.
Building a Civilization of Peace through Dreams
“Do not tire of dreaming and working towards a civilization of peace,” Pope Francis encouraged the Indonesian nation. He added, “Always dare to dream of brotherhood, sow seeds of love, walk the path of dialogue, and exhibit kindness and warmth with your characteristic smile.”
As Pope Francis concluded his message, he implored everyone to continue the journey of faith with resilience, humility, and an unwavering commitment to living out the Word of Jesus in their lives.
