Greetings to everyone gathered here today. I sincerely apologize for the minor delay; it has been a hectic morning as usual.
It gives me great pleasure to offer a comprehensive recap of the G7 Leaders’ Summit during the Italian Presidency.
Leading this Summit and holding the G7 Presidency for the entire year of 2024 has been an honor for me personally and for Italy as a whole.
I must extend my gratitude to the entire team who meticulously organized this highly complex event with great efficiency. I also appreciate Ambassador Elisabetta Belloni and her team for their intricate diplomatic negotiations.
A special thanks to my diplomatic advisor, Ambassador Fabrizio Saggio, and all those who played a role in the seamless execution of this event with numerous delegations.
Heartfelt thanks to all the Italian State administrations, officials, and personnel at all levels for contributing to the success of this initiative.
Appreciation for the law enforcement and armed forces for ensuring maximum security throughout the proceedings.
Gratitude to journalists and media operators for their coverage, bringing the Summit’s proceedings to the world.
Special thanks to the people of Puglia and local institutions for their warm reception and hospitality.
The collective effort put forth has truly honored Italy and showcased our ability to organize significant events.
The Leaders’ Summit concluded with the adoption of the final communiqué, a detailed document outlining commitments to address global challenges.
I must thank my colleagues, the leaders of the G7 nations, and international organizations for their contributions to the Summit’s success.
Yesterday’s Outreach session was one of the most significant, with leaders from various nations participating and enriching the Summit.
The Summit was historic, with Pope’s participation, marking a momentous occasion in nearly fifty years of G7 history.
The final communiqué underscores the G7’s commitment to defending the international rules-based system in the aftermath of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
There is a renewed commitment and an agreement for additional financial support to aid Ukraine in its ongoing crisis.
Several other key topics were addressed in the Summit, including the Middle East conflict, and a shared commitment to address root causes of migration and combat human traffickers.
Initiatives were launched to strengthen cooperation with African nations, focusing on sustainable development, food security, energy, and infrastructure.
Italy’s push for a new approach to cooperation with African nations, aligned with the G7’s shared vision for prosperity and growth on the continent.
Efforts were made to ensure that artificial intelligence remains human-controlled and ethical, with robust discussions around labor market impacts.
The Summit also covered topics like economic security, supply chains, and the climate-energy nexus, underscoring the need for interconnected solutions to global challenges.
The G7’s commitment to a fairer international taxation system and its focus on climate change were highlighted, with a pragmatic and technology-neutral approach.
Significant strides were made in addressing various issues, reaffirming the G7’s dedication to fostering global stability and cooperation.
The Summit may have concluded, but the work of the Italian Presidency continues, with upcoming ministerial meetings to delve further into priorities set forth during the G7 Summit.
Italy has showcased its capabilities on the global stage during these remarkable days, and I am immensely proud of our nation’s achievements and contributions to charting the path forward.
