The event was organized by the Women of Faith for Peace movement, in collaboration with several organizations, and took place in Montagnaga, Trento. Participants engaged in various workshops centered around the theme of peace, shared in interfaith prayer, and came together in a symbolic “Kitchen of Peace.”
Over the course of three days, around forty individuals of different generations gathered to delve into the meaning and significance of peace in today’s world. Led by Lia Beltrami, the founder of Women of Faith for Peace, the event aimed to spark deep reflection and explore the question, “What is peace in a world plagued by war?”
Women of Faith for Peace was established 15 years ago in Jerusalem as a response to the pressing need for peacebuilding initiatives in conflict-ridden areas. The movement has since expanded globally, spreading experiences of peace and fostering genuine dialogue in divided communities and tension-filled regions.
During the event, organizers highlighted the crucial role women of faith play in promoting reconciliation and healing in war-torn societies. Recognizing the power of women’s voices and their unique ability to nurture harmony and empathy, the movement aims to empower women to be agents of change in their respective communities.
The gathering also saw the International Center for Peace Among Peoples of Assisi awarding the prestigious Pilgrim of Peace Prize to Women of Faith for Peace in recognition of their tireless efforts in advocating for peace and justice.
As the world grapples with various conflicts and challenges, the participants at the event reflected on the elements that define peace, including harmony, justice, and the willingness to listen and engage with others. They emphasized the importance of women’s contributions to peacebuilding efforts at all levels of society.
Looking ahead, the attendees expressed a renewed commitment to driving positive change in their communities and beyond. They highlighted the need for unity, awareness-raising, and ongoing dialogue to ensure that peace remains a priority in our collective consciousness.
The Women of Faith for Peace movement continues to inspire and empower women around the world to be catalysts for peace, bridging divides and fostering understanding across diverse faith traditions and cultural backgrounds.
