Join Pope Francis in Creating the Heart of Indonesia
Excitement is brewing as Pope Francis prepares to visit the “Grha Pemuda” Youth House in Jakarta and add the final piece to the ‘Hati Indonesia’, or Heart of Indonesia, artwork. Scholas Occurrentes, a Pontifical Foundation, recently held a press conference to unveil this unique project that symbolizes Indonesia’s cultural and religious diversity.
During the media briefing, architect Marchellu Rafi shared insights into the polyhedron project, highlighting how it represents unity among different communities from varying backgrounds, socio-economic statuses, and religions. The polyhedron, shaped like a heart, is a mosaic of diverse triangles, each unique in its own way.
Rafi explained, “The polyhedron represents different races, religions, and backgrounds coming together to form a single entity. Our diversity is beautifully portrayed through this colorful symbol that unites us as humans.”
On September 4, Pope Francis will step into the heart-shaped polyhedron and add his contribution to the collective artwork. He will also share two words that will be integrated with messages from other young individuals, creating a powerful display of unity and blessing.
Pablo Palmeyro, project manager of ‘Hati Indonesia’, revealed that the exterior of the polyhedron consists of 187 unique pieces of artwork made from recycled materials, natural elements, and fabrics. The collaborative effort involved architects and communities across Indonesia.
Scholas Occurrentes, founded by Pope Francis in 2013, aims to educate youth in the “Culture of Encounter” through arts, sports, and technology. This international non-profit organization operates in over 190 countries, empowering young people to address key societal issues and develop innovative solutions.
Reflecting on the organization’s origins, global president Jose Maria del Corral shared how Scholas was born out of a crisis, with the aim of transforming education on a global scale. Pope Francis recognized the critical importance of education in shaping a better future for all, emphasizing that changing education is essential for changing the world.
As we eagerly anticipate Pope Francis’ participation in the ‘Hati Indonesia’ artwork, let’s embrace the message of unity and diversity that this project embodies. Stay updated on this inspiring initiative and join us in celebrating the Heart of Indonesia!
