Donald Trump recently took aim at the increasing inclusion of transgender individuals in American society during his speech at the annual Moms for Liberty meeting. He argued that transgender individuals should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports tournaments and that access to gender transition healthcare should be limited.
The former US president appeared at the Moms for Liberty annual meeting in Washington, a national non-profit organization with ultra-conservative views. During his hour-long speech, he criticized President Joe Biden, condemned illegal immigration, and shared personal anecdotes about his parents’ marriage, his rise to fame on “The Apprentice” reality TV show, and the debates surrounding Biden’s re-election campaign.
“They are poisoning our country, your schools, and your children are suffering because they go to class and get sick, and they don’t even speak English,” Trump stated, referring to the presence of immigrants crossing the border illegally. The majority of the over 130,000 Moms for Liberty supporters believe that parents should have more say in public education and that programs promoting racial equity and transgender inclusion should be banned from schools.
‘I will vote against the abortion referendum in Florida’
In a quick turnaround, Donald Trump announced on Fox News that he would vote against the referendum in Florida to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution, overturning the current state ban on abortion after six weeks. Just a day earlier, he had told NBC that he believed six weeks was too short, suggesting he would vote in favor of the referendum initiative.
On Fox News, Trump reiterated his stance: “I think a longer timeframe than six weeks is needed, but I also believe that the proposed amendment is too permissive, so I will vote no for that reason.”
The tycoon was at risk of losing the support of anti-abortion groups, but now he faces the possibility of alienating a significant portion of the female electorate.
