Welcome to Rome: Countdown to Jubilee Year 2025
Rome is buzzing with activity as construction workers pull off miracles to meet the deadline for the Vatican’s Jubilee Year 2025. The city is a hive of infrastructure projects, all gearing up for the monumental event.
Among the most significant projects is the transformation of Piazza Pia into a pedestrian haven connecting Castel S. Angelo to St Peter’s Square. The traffic will be rerouted underground, paving the way for a new urban landscape.
Recently, a surprising discovery halted works briefly at Piazza Pia, uncovering ancient Roman ruins of a fullonica and a garden associated with Emperor Caligula. Despite this, the project is on track for its scheduled completion.
Other exciting ventures include the revamping of Piazza Risorgimento near the Vatican and the redevelopment of Piazza della Repubblica and Piazza dei Cinquecento around Termini station. Rome is also restoring the iconic Ponte dell’Industria damaged in 2021, set to open its doors in December with enhanced features.
Moreover, the area around Basilica di S. Giovanni in Laterano is in for a treat with innovative upgrades, including splash fountains. Recent archaeological findings add a new layer of history to the project, uncovering structures dating back to Emperor Constantine.
Transport infrastructure is also getting a facelift with upgrades to the Metro A subway line and tram networks. Mayor Roberto Gualtieri acknowledges the inconvenience caused to motorists but promises a more beautiful and efficient city post-Jubilee.
Amidst all the hustle and bustle, the countdown continues to the Jubilee Year, a rare occasion where the Church offers the faithful a special year of grace. Pope Francis will inaugurate the event by opening the Holy Doors across Rome’s pivotal basilicas, marking the official start of the celebrations.
So, join us on this exciting journey as Rome prepares to shine brighter and grander than ever before!
