Witness Top International Athletes Compete in Rome on 30 August
The prestigious 2024 edition of the Golden Gala, Italy’s annual track and field event, will be held at Rome’s iconic Olympic Stadium on Friday, 30 August.
This exciting event in Rome is a part of the Diamond League, a series of 14 track and field meetings featuring the world’s top athletes, and will be broadcast live on Italian television.
The Golden Gala, now in its 44th year, will showcase a star-studded lineup of international athletes, including Italian medallists from the Paris Olympics.
Some of the standout athletes to keep an eye on include Italians Marcell Jacobs (100m) and Gianmarco Tamberi (high jump), Letsile Tebogo from Botswana (100m), Americans Ryan Crouser (shot put) and Tara Davis-Woodhall (long jump), Britain’s Daryll Neita and Amy Hunt (200m), and Australian pole vaulter Nina Kennedy.
The Golden Gala, which began in 1980, was dedicated to the memory of the late champion Italian sprinter Pietro Mennea in 2013. This sporting extravaganza features 14 specialities, seven for men and seven for women, all contributing to the qualifiers for the finals in Brussels in September.
Throughout its history, the gala has witnessed the setting of several world records, with Morocco’s Hicham El Guerrouj still holding the 1,500m (1998) and mile (1999) records.
