Set to open on September 1, 2024, the Cardinal Jaime Sin Museum is a collaborative effort between the local government of New Washington and the Diocese of Kalibo. Mayor Jessica Panambo expressed gratitude to the Serviam Foundation and the Kalibo Diocese for transforming Cardinal Sin’s house into a museum.
With a focus on preserving the history and teachings of Cardinal Sin, the museum aims to educate the public, particularly the youth, about the remarkable legacy of the esteemed Cardinal. The National Museum in Visayas has been diligently training museum staff in preparation for the grand opening.
Personal belongings of Cardinal Sin, graciously preserved by the Serviam Foundation, will be showcased in exhibits. Additionally, Fr. Rufino Sescon, Jr., former personal secretary to Cardinal Sin, has generously donated items and memorabilia for display.
The opening festivities kick off with a cultural event on August 30 at the New Washington Community Center, leading up to an official unveiling and blessing on August 31, coinciding with what would have been Cardinal Sin’s 96th birthday.
Fr. Justy More, chair of the Historical Research and Cultural Council, revealed that the idea for the museum was born during a meeting at the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines in Kalibo. The Kalibo Diocese, in collaboration with the Serviam Foundation, has been diligently preparing for this momentous occasion.
Cardinal Jaime Sin, a towering figure in Philippine history, held the position of the 30th Catholic Archbishop of Manila and was the third Filipino cardinal. Born in New Washington on August 31, 1928, his impactful contributions to both the Church and the nation are honored and celebrated through this museum.
