Welcome to our blog, where we delve into the profound and spiritual world of liturgical prayer. Today, we are honored to share a message from His Reverend Excellency, Archbishop CLAUDIO MANIAGO, Metropolitan of Catanzaro-Squillace and President of the Liturgical Action Centre.
Dear Reverend Excellency,
We are thrilled to convey the Holy Father’s message for the 74th National Liturgical Week, organized by the Liturgical Action Centre and hosted by the Church of Modena-Nonantola. With a rich history and gifts of holiness, this event promises to be a transformative experience. Pope Francis extends his prayers for the success of the study sessions and celebratory moments to all participants, including organizers, speakers, conference attendees, and volunteers.
The theme of this Liturgical Week is “In the liturgy the true prayer of the Church: People of God and ars celebrandi.” This theme highlights the essence of liturgical prayer as a communal and unifying experience that transcends individualism. It reminds us of our participation in Christ’s prayer to the Father in the Holy Spirit, fostering a sense of community and communion among believers.
As you embark on this journey of discovery and reflection, consider the words of Romano Guardini: “The liturgy introduces the full breadth of truth in prayer; indeed, it is the prayed dogma, the truth relived in prayer.” This emphasizes the objective nature of liturgy and the importance of celebrating it with fervor to fully receive the grace it offers.
One of the key focal points of the study program is the ars celebrandi, a commitment that all baptized individuals must embrace to enhance their participation in the Church’s prayer life. Through the unity and harmony of liturgical prayer, we are reminded of our shared journey as disciples of Christ.
The Holy Father emphasizes the importance of rediscovering the choral nature of liturgical prayer, where voices merge to form one body and one voice. The act of singing sacred hymns is not merely decorative but an integral part of expressing and living out our faith.
Furthermore, the liturgy teaches us the value of silence, providing a sacred space for contemplation, prayer, and transformation. Embracing moments of silence in our busy lives can deepen our connection with God and foster spiritual growth.
Lastly, the promotion of liturgical ministeriality is highlighted as a means of manifesting the Church’s synodal nature and fostering active participation among the faithful. Embracing diversity in ministerial roles contributes to a sense of co-responsibility and communion within the Church.
As we conclude, we extend our gratitude and blessings to Archbishop Erio Castellucci of Modena-Nonantola, Bishop of Carpi, and all participants of the National Liturgical Week. May these reflections inspire our Christian communities to encounter the Risen Lord through liturgical prayer and communion with the Church.
Warm regards,
Pietro Cardinal Parolin
Secretary of State
