With Pope Francis scheduled to visit Indonesia from September 3–6, Michael Trias Kuscahyanto, the Indonesian Ambassador to the Holy See, has reassured that everything is on track.
He expressed confidence that “everything is going smoothly” and urged everyone to pray for the Pope’s health and safety during the journey.
This will be the third papal visit to Indonesia, with previous visits by Pope Paul VI in 1970 and Pope John Paul II in 1989, reflecting the strong bond between Indonesia and the Vatican.
The Indonesian embassy is providing logistical support, including visa assistance for journalists who will be accompanying the Pope. Efforts are being made to expedite their visa processing.
Pope Francis is not only set to meet with the Catholic community but also with Indonesians of other faiths, spreading a message of peace during his visit.
The Indonesian government and the Bishops’ Conference of Indonesia (KWI) are actively involved in the preparations for the visit.
Catholic churches across Indonesia are gearing up for a Mass at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Central Jakarta, expecting around 70,000 attendees at the event scheduled for September 5.
The Pope is expected to arrive in Jakarta on September 3 and will be formally welcomed by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo at the State Palace the following day.
During his visit, Pope Francis will deliver speeches at significant venues such as the Jakarta Cathedral and the Istiqlal Mosque, the largest mosque in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
