With a firm commitment to being stewards of social action and ecology ministries, Caritas Philippines emphasizes the need for strategic and impactful initiatives to address urgent environmental issues. The organization’s statement comes as the country grapples with visible environmental degradation caused by activities such as coal and mining operations, reclamation projects, and oil spills.
These destructive actions serve as stark reminders of the earth’s distress, exacerbated by unsustainable economic practices. Pope Francis, in his message for this year’s Season of Creation, warns of the dangers posed by unchecked technological advancements and emphasizes the importance of ethical boundaries, particularly concerning artificial intelligence.
Reflecting on discussions from the 128th CBCP Plenary Assembly, Caritas Philippines outlines six key eco-actions to combat environmental degradation, including supporting interfaith celebrations, divesting from extractive industries, and combating plastic pollution.
The organization stresses the shared responsibility to act on behalf of those most impacted by climate change and environmental degradation. It calls on Filipinos to stand up against injustices and protect the environment during the Season of Creation.
