Gianmarco Tamberi, the Italian high jumper, faced a setback with another kidney colic just hours before the final in Paris 2024. Despite the excruciating pain, Tamberi took to social media to express his determination to compete. “It’s all over. Another kidney colic tonight. I don’t know how I’ll do it, but I’ll step on the platform,” he wrote.
Unfortunately, this renal colic halted Tamberi’s dream of repeating his gold medal from the Tokyo Olympics. In a heartfelt Instagram post, he revealed his despair and conflicting emotions. “It’s all over,” he said. “This night at 5 am, I woke up to the same excruciating pain from a few days ago. Another kidney colic. Five hours have passed, and the pain hasn’t subsided. I managed to defy fate once after the injury in 2016, but this time, I fear fate may have won. Will I step on the platform tonight? Yes, but I really don’t know how I’ll manage to jump in these conditions.”
