Italy’s Performance in the Paris Olympics
In the recent Paris Olympics, Domenico Acerenza finished in fourth place in the 10km open water swimming event. The gold went to Hungarian Kristof Rasovszky, silver to German Oliver Klemet, and bronze to another Hungarian David Betlehem. Italian swimmer Gregorio Paltrinieri finished in ninth place, struggling in the final meters.
Paltrinieri Contemplates Future
Reflecting on his performance, Paltrinieri stated, “Overall, I am pleased with my Olympics, although this morning I felt ‘very good’ and now only ‘good’. Competing in both pool and open water may have had an impact but it was my choice, not an excuse, although it may have influenced me.” Paltrinieri added, “Anything could happen now, I will take a few months off to recover – I’m not sure if this was my last race, but I need to think carefully. I have a decision to make. We’ll see.”
Acerenza’s Experience in the Senna River
“The race course was beautiful, and the crowd was amazing. One of the most beautiful open water races I have ever done, putting past stories aside. But I wouldn’t dive back into the Senna River, hoping to stay well in the coming days, otherwise, someone will have to take responsibility,” said Domenico Acerenza, who finished fourth in the 10km open water event in Paris. “I’ve read that some have asked us not to jump into the Senna, but it was like asking not to go to work. We were put in this condition and had to make it work. I never give up, that’s just who I am. I believe until the end, it’s my philosophy. I couldn’t have done more, even though we don’t like fourth place. I was ready to give it my all in this race, and I did it,” concluded the Lucanian swimmer.
