The recent “Stauros” event, organized by the Christian Students’ Association on August 2, 2024, drew over 4,000 young participants from 15 higher education institutions across Bangalore, creating a vibrant and inspiring community of faith.
Fr. Stephen Alathara, Deputy Secretary General of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI), commended Mount Carmel College for its dedication to the holistic growth of young individuals. He emphasized the importance of educational institutions not only as centers of learning but also as places of formation, where crucial human values are instilled.
The “Stauros” event showcased various Gospel-themed activities, ranging from Western acoustics to street plays, all aimed at allowing students to express their faith through their talents. Sr. Albina, CSST, Director of Mount Carmel College, expressed the significance of providing a platform for students to proclaim the Gospel, thereby fostering a strong sense of faith and commitment.
Dr. Lekha George, Principal of Mount Carmel College, highlighted the institution’s commitment to holistic education through activities that strengthen faith and promote outreach through music and charity. The Christian Students’ Association (CSA), under the guidance of Sr. Sajitha, CSST, plays a vital role in nurturing faith among the youth through various educational and community service initiatives.
Founded in 1948 by the Carmelite Sisters of St. Teresa (CSST), Mount Carmel College has consistently been a top-ranking institution in India, earning an A+ accreditation. In a historic moment in 2024, the college opened its doors to male students, marking a significant milestone in its journey. Currently, over 10,000 students are pursuing higher education in diverse courses at Mount Carmel College.
