Marcell Jacobs advances to the final in the 100m at Paris 2024 as a lucky loser. The Olympic champion from Tokyo 2020 ran his semifinal in 9.92 seconds, finishing third, but is one of the two with the best time to qualify for the final. However, it was not the same fate for the other Italian in the semifinal: Chituru Ali finished seventh in his semifinal with a time of 10.14.
With a time of 9.92 seconds, which is also his best this year, Marcell Jacobs is the first of the two lucky losers to make it to the final of the 100 meters. The other is the American Bednarek, who also ran in the same semifinal as the Italian, finishing with a time of 9.93. The fastest time among the eight who made it to the final was 9.80 by Jamaican Kishane Thompson (the opponent Jacobs had expressed the most fear of in previous days), followed closely by fellow Jamaican Oblique Seville in 9.81, and then Noah Lyles in 9.83 in the first semifinal. The second semifinal saw the American Fred Kerley finishing with a time of 9.84 in second place in his series. The two who finished ahead of Jacobs in the second semifinal were the South African Akani Simbine in 9.87 and the representative from Botswana, Letsile Tebogo, who narrowly beat Jacobs with a time of 9.91 compared to 9.92.
