Welcome to our blog where we bring you the latest news and highlights from the Vatican. This morning, the Holy Father Francis had a special audience with the seminarians of the Major Seminary of Getafe in Spain at the Vatican Apostolic Palace.
As we prepare to celebrate the memory of St. John Mary Vianney, the Holy Curé of Ars, we are reminded of his powerful words: “If we understood well what a priest is on earth, we would die: not of fear, but of love.” These words echo through time, emphasizing the greatness and beauty of the priestly vocation as a call to holiness and total dedication.
Here is the heartfelt greeting that the Pope shared with the seminarians during the audience:
“Dear brothers, I am delighted to welcome the community of the ‘Nuestra Señora de los Apóstoles’ Major Seminary of Getafe to the Vatican. Your pilgrimage to the tombs of the apostles Peter and Paul, accompanied by Bishop Ginés García Beltrán and Bishop José María Avendaño, is part of the celebrations for the thirtieth anniversary of the seminary’s founding. Your visit is appreciated, and I hope your time in Rome will spiritually prepare you for the upcoming Jubilee 2025.”
Reflecting on St. John Mary Vianney’s profound devotion to his priesthood, the Pope encouraged the seminarians to embrace their calling with love and dedication. He emphasized the importance of spiritual life, study, community, and apostolic activity in their journey toward priesthood.
The major seminary’s location on the Cerro de los Ángeles, the geographical center of the Iberian Peninsula, holds special significance. Encouraging the seminarians to make Jesus the center of their lives, the Pope invoked the guidance of Our Lady of the Angels in their formation.
As we honor the legacy of St. John Mary Vianney and look towards the future of these dedicated seminarians, we are reminded of the profound calling to serve God and His people with love and integrity.
