During a positive meeting in Paris, Giorgia Meloni and Thomas Bach discussed the Carini case and agreed to stay in contact to ensure a welcoming environment for Imane Khelif, the Algerian hyperandrogenic boxer, who has competed internationally for six years. Bach, the President of the IOC, stated to ANSA, “We share perspectives and agree on the need to clarify and improve the scientific background we discussed.”
The meeting, which also included Giovanni Malagò, President of CONI, addressed the topic of Milan Cortina 2026. Bach mentioned, “The Prime Minister confirmed the government’s full support for the success of the upcoming Winter Games.”

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met with International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach in Paris. The discussions focused on the progress of the Games and the preparations for the Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina 2026, as announced by Palazzo Chigi. During the meeting, they also addressed the case of athlete Imane Khelif and the rules to ensure fairness in competitions. Meloni and Bach agreed that the Government and the IOC will stay in touch to assess how to tackle the issue in the future.
