An Urgent Call to Action
Tapachula, located in Chiapas, has become a battleground where communities are forced to flee to Guatemala to escape the brutal tactics of Mexican drug cartels. Bishop Jaime Calderón paints a grim picture of the challenges faced by these vulnerable populations, underscoring the lack of protection from authorities. The reality in Chiapas mirrors the struggles of many regions across the country, where citizens are left to fend for themselves against criminal elements.
The diocese of Tapachula cries out for help, stating, “The presence of drug cartels in our territory has left us feeling abandoned by those meant to protect us. The government’s inaction has emboldened these criminal groups, leaving our communities vulnerable and exposed.
Desperation grips the hearts of our people as they endure daily hardships. With the National Guard and Mexican Army turning a blind eye to our plight, we question the very essence of governance. Who holds the reins of power in our nation? Will we need external intervention to restore order and justice?
Even in my own town, the grip of criminal syndicates tightens, dictating terms and instilling fear in the hearts of the populace. The authorities’ inability or unwillingness to confront these criminal elements leaves us at the mercy of those who thrive on lawlessness and exploitation. Who will champion the cause of justice and uphold the rule of law?
A Beacon of Hope Amidst Turmoil
Amidst the chaos and despair, the diocese offers a ray of hope, urging us to trust in a higher power. “In times of darkness and desolation, when human hands fail us, we must turn to God for strength and solace. He will not forsake us in our hour of need. Let us not lose heart but continue to strive for a better tomorrow,
Though the world may turn a blind eye, we find refuge in the divine grace that guides our path. With unwavering faith, we shall overcome the trials that beset us. Let us stand firm in our resolve and not succumb to despair.”
Uniting for Change
In a clarion call to action, the diocese beckons us to stand in solidarity with the marginalized and oppressed. “The time for passive indifference has passed. We must rally together to support those who suffer in silence. Let us demand accountability from our leaders and insist on justice for all,
To the authorities entrusted with our well-being, we implore you to heed the cries of the marginalized and fulfill your mandate to protect and serve. Do not let fear or apathy cloud your judgment; rise up and defend the vulnerable in our midst. The time for action is now,”
