After two canceled training sessions and the postponement of the men’s race on Monday due to pollution, the women’s triathlon was the first to dive into the race this morning, which includes a swim in the Seine River, in front of a large crowd despite the early hour and overnight rain.
The female triathletes started the race at 8 o’clock after receiving approval from the health authorities to proceed with the event. There was relief among the audience, who had gathered along the course an hour before the start.
The green light for the races was announced overnight by the organizing committee and the international body World Triathlon. “The parties involved have confirmed that the women’s and men’s triathlons will take place as planned. The results of the latest water tests have been deemed satisfactory,” a press release explained.
