Filippo Ganna clinches Italy’s first medal at the 2024 Paris Games. The Italian athlete finished in second place, securing the silver medal in the individual time trial won by Belgian cyclist Remco Evenepoel.
President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, congratulated Ganna after his performance. The Italian cyclist received a handshake and words of praise from the head of state, with whom he exchanged a few remarks. “We gave it our all,” Ganna said referring to the gold medal opportunity, to which Mattarslla replied, “Well done, well done.”
“It’s something I wanted, there’s a bit of regret but I wasn’t beaten by just anyone but by an exceptional talent. I tried to give my all until the very end. We have put in a lot of work, and a special thanks goes to my coach who has always been by my side, even during high-altitude training. Will I be able to sleep tonight? Yes, of course,” said Filippo Ganna in an interview with Rai. “Now, I will return to Italy to train with my track teammates – he added – and then I will be back here again.”
